Enugu State has procured and deployed advanced surveillance drones as part of a comprehensive security enhancement strategy aimed at curbing the escalating incidences of kidnapping and armed violence within the state.

The acquisition was officially unveiled by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, alongside other critical security assets, including patrol vehicles, motorcycles, ballistic vests, and protective helmets.

The deployed surveillance platforms are Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) drones, engineered for extended-range operations with an estimated operational radius of up to 100 km. They are equipped with multiple artificial intelligence–enabled imaging systems, including thermal and night-vision cameras, and are capable of cruising at speeds of up to 120 km/h. These technical features enable real-time aerial monitoring, enhanced intelligence gathering, rapid tactical response, and improved overall operational efficiency of security agencies within the state

The deployment of this integrated security infrastructure forms a core component of the state’s renewed public safety initiative. Available reports indicate that the introduction of these measures has contributed to a substantial decline in violent criminal activities, with a reported reduction of over 80% in crime rates across Enugu State since their implementation
