Flagged off at the state secretariat, Asaba by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr Val Arenyeka, the program, tagged “Farming at Your Doorsteps, No More Hunger”, focuses on aquaculture, cassava cultivation, and vegetable farming, with the goal of promoting food security, self-reliance, and agricultural innovation across the state.
While speaking, the commissioner explained that the program was another launching of the state government MORE agenda initiative, igniting a movement for food security, self reliance and prosperity in the state at large. He affirmed that the initiative was to encourage civil servants not to only be workers in the public service but also become producers and contributors to food systems, by cultivating their own farm and reducing dependence on external food sources emphasizing on the need to be self reliant since they work three days in a week.
Arenyeka noted that the initiative is beyond farming and about changing mindset, turning backyards into opportunities, hands into tools of productivity and homes of to hubs of innovation where every seed planted represents hope for stronger, and a more self sufficient Delta State, appreciating Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his relentless support in driving agricultural transformation across the state
He assured that every Deltan will benefit from the initiative and every beneficiary will be giving a mentor to enable them actualize a positive results.
In his remarks, Iwetan Peter one of the beneficiaries, expressed his appreciation to the governor for the initiative and support in driving agricultural transformation, while assuring that they will make a good use of the opportunity.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of seeds, fertilizer, feeds, pesticides, cassava stems, fisheries amongst others to the beneficiaries and inspection of the green house by the commissioner and other dignitaries present at the event.
