Residents Commend Oborevwori Over Drainage Project in Asaba
Residents of Chris Abude Street, located across the express opposite the former Federal Road Safety Office off Akwuofor in Asaba, have commended the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the ongoing construction of a drainage system along the street.
The project, which has been long anticipated by residents, is expected to address persistent flooding and poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season when the area becomes largely inaccessible.
In an interview, a local laundry shop owner, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed appreciation to the state government for initiating the project. He noted that the road had been in a deplorable condition for years, often becoming flooded during rainfall, especially at the entrance of the street. According to him, residents were frequently forced to take alternative routes to access their homes and businesses.
He further explained that the introduction of a proper drainage system is a critical first step toward resolving the flooding challenge and ensuring lasting road rehabilitation. The ongoing construction, which includes drainage channels on both sides of the road, is expected to significantly improve accessibility throughout the year.
Another resident also acknowledged the positive impact of the development, describing it as beneficial to both residents and visitors, despite temporary disruptions to business activities caused by the construction work. She noted that although some properties have been affected during the process, the government has reportedly provided compensation to affected property owners.
The residents expressed optimism that upon completion, the project will enhance mobility, reduce flooding, and improve the overall living conditions within the area.
