Fubara Commissions Bori Zonal Hospital

Fubara Commissions Bori Zonal Hospital, Reaffirms Healthcare Commitment
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commissioned the Bori Zonal Hospital, a project originally initiated by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, later abandoned, and partially completed by the immediate past administration.
At the commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, Governor Fubara restated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare, education, agriculture, security, and the overall wellbeing of Rivers people. He emphasized the importance of secondary healthcare facilities in reducing the strain on teaching hospitals.
“We not only renovated the building but also ensured that all necessary equipment and facilities were installed,” the Governor said, directing the Health Commissioner and the Rivers State Hospital Management Board to put the hospital to immediate use.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, described the hospital as a 105-bed secondary healthcare facility housed in a three-storey complex, complete with support structures such as a laundry, mortuary, and staff quarters. She noted that the hospital will serve as a referral centre for primary and smaller secondary facilities across the Rivers Southeast Senatorial District.
The facility includes a reception/outpatient clinic, laboratories, operating theatres, intensive care units, and is designed with serene landscaping and ample parking to create a wellness-friendly environment.
Ambassador Marvin Yobana, representing Dorny Services, the contractor, praised the indigenous professionals who delivered the project within nine months, describing it as “Nigeria’s most modern hospital.” He highlighted that internationally sourced medical equipment ensures the hospital can handle a wide range of services, reducing reliance on medical tourism.
Community leaders also expressed gratitude. Hon. Martins Nwigbo, former Khana LGA Chairman, commended Governor Fubara’s focus on grassroots development, while Mrs. Helen Chiorlu, Head of Local Government Administration, described the hospital as “an incredible gift” that will transform healthcare delivery in Khana and beyond.
