The Iwuokpom Primary Health Centre is located in Iwuokpom community, Ibeno Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The facility was completed and commissioned in October 2024, and was named after Pastor Patience Umo Eno by the First Lady Designate, Lady Helen Obareki, in recognition of her commitment to healthcare and community service.The centre was officially opened by Hon. Glory Effiong, Executive Chairman of Ibeno LGA, as part of activities marking her first year in office. It stands as one of her administration’s flagship projects aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to riverine and oil-producing communities that have historically faced access challenges.
The health centre was built to modern PHC standards and is equipped with an outpatient clinic, maternity ward, labour room, immunization unit, pharmacy, and basic diagnostic services. It also has a solar-powered borehole to ensure 24-hour water supply, and staff quarters to encourage health workers to reside within the community. With these facilities, residents of Iwuokpom and nearby fishing settlements can now access antenatal care, child immunization, malaria treatment, and minor emergency services without traveling to Eket or Uyo.
The health centre was commissioned on the same day as several other projects under the ARISE Agenda, including solar streetlights across Iwuokpom, upgraded market stalls to support local fish traders, and the ARISE Farm project designed to boost food production and youth employment in Ibeno. Together, these projects reflect a coordinated approach to rural development — linking health, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
Both the health centre and the supporting projects fall under the Akwa Ibom State Government’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes Agricultural revolution, Rural development, Infrastructure, Security, and Educational advancement. In Ibeno LGA, the focus has been on closing healthcare gaps in coastal communities, improving road and water access, and creating economic opportunities for women and young people.Since its opening, the Iwuokpom Primary Health Centre has reduced the burden on Ibeno General Hospital and provided a critical first point of care for hundreds of families. Community leaders say the presence of the centre, combined with the new streetlights and market upgrades, has improved night-time security and boosted local commerce.
