ASSUMPTA FLYOVER TRANSFORMS OWERRI METROPOLIS — GOVERNOR UZODINMA DELIVERS MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE.

The Assumpta Flyover in Owerri, which is set to become fully operational in the coming days, has significantly transformed the landscape of the Imo State capital, bringing both infrastructural advancement and renewed aesthetic appeal to the metropolis.
The once-congested Control Post axis, known over the years for persistent traffic gridlock, illegal motor parks, street trading, and activities of touts, has now been completely transformed into a modern urban corridor befitting a state capital. Today, the area proudly showcases a state-of-the-art flyover complemented by professionally designed access roads, walkways, drainage systems, and improved traffic management infrastructure.
Beyond easing vehicular movement and enhancing economic activities within the city, the project has also improved the overall environmental outlook of the area. Residents and visitors alike now enjoy a more orderly, cleaner, and safer urban environment.
Closely complementing the flyover is the magnificent Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC), strategically located along the Orlu Road/Bank Road axis. The facility, re-conceptualized and completed with modern engineering standards, further adds prestige and elegance to the area, making it one of the most attractive locations within Owerri metropolis.
When Governor Hope Uzodinma initiated these ambitious projects, critics doubted their feasibility and sustainability. Some described them as “white elephant projects,” while others predicted they would remain abandoned. However, the successful completion of the projects has silenced the critics and demonstrated the administration’s commitment to delivering durable and impactful infrastructure.
Today, the projects stand completed and ready for commissioning, with expectations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially inaugurate them.
Governor Hope Uzodinma has continued to receive commendation for his infrastructural strides across the state. His recognition as “Infrastructure Governor of the Year” by Vanguard Newspapers reflects the administration’s visible achievements in road construction and urban renewal.
Under Governor Uzodinma’s administration, major roads including the Owerri–Orlu Road, Owerri–Okigwe Road, and Owerri–Egbu–Emekuku–Mbaise–Obowo–Umuahia Road, which had remained in deplorable condition for decades, have either been reconstructed or significantly rehabilitated. Several other urban and rural road projects across Imo State have also been completed, improving connectivity and boosting economic activities in many communities.
Indeed, the Assumpta Flyover stands today not just as a transportation project, but as a symbol of modernization, development, and the ongoing transformation of Imo State.
