AKWA-IBOM STATE GOVT. COMMISSIONS LUTHERAN MODEL SCHOOL, AFAHA OFFIONG.

Lutheran Model School is located in Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The school was completed and officially commissioned on May 7, 2026, as part of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s broader push to expand rural infrastructure and raise the standard of public education.The commissioning ceremony drew community leaders, education officials, and residents from neighboring villages. It was held on the same day the 11-kilometer Owot Uta–Nung Oku Road was opened. That road links Nsit Ibom and Ibesikpo Asutan LGAs, and it now cuts travel time significantly for students, teachers, farmers, and traders who previously relied on longer, less motorable routes.

Before the school and road projects, many children in Afaha Offiong and surrounding settlements had to trek long distances or attend overcrowded classrooms in nearby towns. The new model school provides modern classrooms, staff offices, a science lab, an ICT room, and a playground. It was built to accommodate both primary and junior secondary levels, reducing pressure on existing schools in Nsit Ibom.Local parents say the proximity of the school has already improved attendance, especially for girls who were most affected by distance and poor road access. Teachers posted to the school also benefit from the new road, which makes daily commuting from Uyo and Ibesikpo easier.
The Lutheran Model School is one of several “model schools” the state government has rolled out since 2024 to replace dilapidated structures and standardize facilities across rural LGAs. Each model school is paired with critical infrastructure like roads, water, and solar power to make learning environments viable year-round.With the Owot Uta–Nung Oku Road now open, Afaha Offiong is better connected to agricultural markets in Ibesikpo Asutan and to Uyo, the state capital. That link is expected to boost the local economy while supporting school enrollment and retention.
